The anime ran 38 episodes on TV Tokyo from April 6, 1989 to January 18, 1990 and spawned a 6-episode OVA series named Shurato: Dark Genesis that concluded the anime adaptation.

A new series will remake the original Legend of Heavenly Sphere Shurato TV series from 1989, with changes in the main story, new characters and a more modern design. The series will release in three formats: four films for theatrical release (movie edition) in 2015, 24-episode series broadcast on TV (TV edition) in the first half of 2016 and 12 episodes for DVD and Blu-ray releases (OVA edition) in the second half of 2016. The movies and OVAs will be uncensored while the TV series will remove inappropriate scenes during its exhibition.
