Akiyoshi Hongo's Digimon franchise will get a 17th anime series

Digimon Adventure tri. is an upcoming Japanese anime series in production by Toei Animation. It is the seventh television anime series in Akiyoshi Hongo's Digimon franchise, serving as the second direct sequel to the original 1999 series, Digimon Adventure, following Digimon Adventure 02, and celebrates the anime franchise's 15th anniversary.

The new series was first announced at a Digimon Adventure 15th anniversary event on August 1, 2014. Basic story details were announced on September 7, 2014, after enough fans participated in a game on the official website. On December 13, 2014, Toei announced the series full title and staff. The series is being directed by Keitaro Motonaga(Date A Live) with scripts by Yuuko Kakihara (Persona 4: The Animation, Jewelpet Sunshine) and character design byAtsuya Uki (Tsuritama).

The series is set in 2005, approximately 6 years after the events of Digimon Adventure. Taichi Yagami is now 17 and attending high school, when he and his friends, the Chosen Children group who saved the Digital World in August 1999 and whose youngest members were part of another group they supported in 2002, reunite with their Digimon partners to once more protect the Digital World from evil.

It will begin airing in April 2015.
